Four Building Blocks

These building blocks are based on an educational practice called Gradual Release of Responsibility that emphasizes mentorship and apprenticeship toward the mastery of skill. This can be practiced in any area where the desire is to take our offspring from NOVICE to MASTERY.

1 - DESIGN THE MODEL

Parents are saying to their legacy: “We will show you how it is done.”

  • Be INTENTIONAL about the DESIGN you MODEL for your children 

  • The DESIGN is your BLUEPRINT (family standards) 

  • “It’s no use walking anywhere to preach unless your preaching is your walking.” ~ Saint Francis of Assisi â€‹

3 - OBESERVE & SUPERVISE

Parents are saying to their legacy: “We will watch you do it.”

Conduct regular MAINTENANCE and SYSTEMS CHECKS! 

  • UPDATE and ADJUST DESIGN when necessary

  • Pay attention to the individual needs of your family and how they line up with 

  • You are not going to match the Jones’ so be careful not to get caught up with the “curse of comparison.”

2 - BUILD TOGETHER

  • Be UNIFIED  as a couple to BUILD according to your family’s DESIGN

  • Stay CONNECTED to your LEGACY  (your children) through the BUILDING PROCESS

4 - RELEASE (OFF)SPRING

  • Offer your support for their journey

  • Celebrate their successes
